Kara House Refurbishment

September 16, 2020

MASH Rotary has assisted Kara House, a Box Hill refuge for abused women, with several projects in recent years.

In 2019 a grant for $2966 from Bendigo Bank financed Kara House’s garden upgrade.

In 2018 $11500 was provided for the 3 elements of below:

  •  Supply and installation of four Mitsubishi 2.5KW Air-Conditioners $7,700
  • Supply and fit new floor covering to kitchen $2000
  • Supply of kitchen table and six chairs $1800

Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) provided $5750 towards the project and the Bendigo Bank provided $3814.

In 2017 our club has assisted Kara House with refurbishment of its kitchen.   The previous kitchen did not meet legal requirements and needed to be demolished and a complying kitchen created.

The project was part funded by Dick Smith Compassionate Grant Funding.   Entrepreneur Dick Smith has made available to Australian Rotary the sum of $1m to be used for small compassionate projects.   The website states that grants will be limited to $10,000 to an entity in a calendar year.

MASH has been fortunate to attract the maximum grant for our project.
