On Sunday 19 October, 2025, the Rotary Club of Mont Albert & Surrey Hills (MASH) ran its inaugural High Tea at the Box Hill Town Hall. We were supported by Whitehorse Council. The event falls in Seniors Month. All profits from the event will be used to support the disability organization, the Alkira Centre Box Hill. We are installing solar panels on three buildings at their residential property in Churchill Street Mont Albert at a cost of $80,000.
To date we have financial commitments of $30,000. An excellent start to this project. Sponsors include Australian Unity, Royal Freemasons and Box Hill RSL.
The theme of the afternoon was ‘Celebrating the extraordinary lives of 100-year-old Australians’ and is based on the website The 100 Project (https://www.the100project.com). Filmmaker John Winter, co-founder of the site, will be the presenter on the afternoon. His work in the Australian film industry over many years is well recognized (He produced Rabbit Proof Fence). The 100 Project have presented at the high tea that Boroondara Council runs annually for its centenarians for the past 2 years.
This fantastic event offers an extraordinary historical window into our past. Rotary club members made much of the food and participants enjoyed the Big Band music from the 1940s – our centenarians’ music. A fun and fascinating afternoon was shared with family and friends.
Musical entertainment will be classic swing era music provided by the Box Hill Brass Band.
