Lift the Lid Walk for Mental Health

2022

Our 2022 Lift the Lid Walk for Mental Health was held on Sunday 20 March.

In that year, we dramatically introduced a new partner – the St Kilda Football Club – it had just opened the Danny Frawley Centre at their headquarters in Moorabbin, promoting health and wellness. MASH and Australian Rotary Health (ARH) have agreed to fund a Danny Frawley mental health scholarship at a Victorian University over the next 3 years.

The walk was held in beautiful sunny conditions at the Gardiners Creek Reserve in Burwood. After words of encouragement from our MC Greg Ross and Gladys Liu (Federal Member for Chisholm) and Dr Daryl Moran (our District Governor) the walkers headed off for laps of the park. Along the way they had a handball comp, marking competition, quiz and bubble fun. Many thanks to all Rotarians and friends who assisted (both MASH and Balwyn). Also thanks to our enthusiastic helpers from Rotaract and Interact.

Also thanks to the St Kilda Footy Club for running a footy clinic with players Nick Coffield and Hunter Clark.

Finally a big thankyou to our sponsors:

  • Ross Hunt Real Estate (Gold)
  • Tru Fire Protection
  • Hanson Building
  • Hardman Bros

2023

The 2023 walk held on Sunday 26 February was a great success raising over $7,500 which was donated to the Australian Rotary Health and Rotary Club of Mont Albert & Surrey Hills ‘Danny Frawley Centre’ PhD Scholarship. A new element was added to the event where 10 local sporting clubs took the challenge to have their club pay an entry fee to win. They then promoted the event with their members and wider community, registering as many participants under their club banner. Surrey Park Football Club where the winning club and they received $2,000 for their efforts. Well done to Surrey Park for having them support this community event.

2024

The 2024 walk was held on a Sunday 18February 2024. The Danny Frawley Centre and St Kilda Footy Club were again involved. Again the walk included a competition between local sports clubs to see who can register the greatest number of participants. Surrey Park Football Club again ran out winners and collected the $2,000 prize. We are also very pleased to confirm that the scholarship has been awarded to a very worthy candidate in Jordan Vella, a PhD student at Monash who is researching the Risk-Protective Factors for the mental health of retired elite athletes. Jordan attended the event and assisted the organisers.

2025

Plans for the 2025 walk are under way.
